WHO WE ARE

About Wanaruah LALC

Our history, our mission and our people.

Our Mission

The Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council exists to serve and strengthen the Wanaruah community — managing Country, supporting members and preserving culture. We are committed to self-determination and the protection of our sacred sites and heritage for future generations.

Our History

Established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, the Wanaruah LALC has served the Hunter Valley community for over 40 years. Our journey has been one of resilience and advocacy, reclaiming stewardship of our ancestral lands and building a sustainable future for our elders and youth alike.
“We walk in the footsteps of our ancestors, guided by their wisdom and strengthened by our shared connection to this land.”

Our Territory

The Wanaruah LALC manages a vast area across the Upper Hunter Region, protecting hundreds of culturally significant sites.
