From 1983 to today — our journey on Country, preserving heritage and empowering the Wanaruah people for generations to come.

Our Timeline

1983

Aboriginal Land Rights Act passed — This landmark legislation paved the way for the formal establishment of the Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council, marking the beginning of our structured advocacy and land management.

1990s

Regional Expansion — Land claims were successfully lodged and community programs expanded significantly across the Hunter Valley region, establishing a strong physical and social footprint.

2000s

Cultural Integrity — Cultural heritage programs and the Elders Group were formally established to ensure that traditional knowledge and lore remain at the heart of our operations.

2010s

Community Celebration — The NAIDOC Committee was formed, leading to the launch of our annual awards and large-scale community events that celebrate Indigenous excellence.

Today

Continuing to grow, serve, and protect Wanaruah Country.
